Biometrics The New Way To Identify Individuals And Create Better Security For Your Business or Even Your Home

Biometrics is, generally, the analysis of what can be measured of your biological features. When it comes to computer security, biometrics has to do with certification techniques that utilize differentiating physical features that can be automatically affirmed.

Biometrics has fast come out as a promising technique for authentication and has already found usefulness in quite a few hi-tech security fields. It is this exceptional aspect of the technology that we would like to center on. We will attempt to depict how well biometrics can be utilized for security and certification in different places.

A very large thought among the multitudes is that, Biometrics is available only for the rich and individuals with loads of cash. But that is a long way from reality. Biometrics other than being very efficient, is also very cost-efficient.

Employing biometrics for discovering and certifying many individuals, offers some unequaled advantages. Exclusively, biometric identification provides an identification on an intrinsic part of a persons body. Soon to be relics, similar to smart cards, iron based magnetic cards, physical keys, and so on, can be stolen or left at home. Keywords might be forgotten or observed.

Print electronic scanners are the most normally applied biometric devices. They made there way into the mainstream a couple of years ago, when producers began designing the technology into laptops and normal computer keyboards, along with supplying stand-alone scanners for a mixed variety of security applications.

A persons prints remain the same throughout life. In over 140 years of print comparison worldwide, no two individuals prints have ever been encountered to be identical, not even those of identical twins. Good fingerprint readers have been put in PDAs like the iPaq Pocket PC, so the scanning technology is also unproblematic. Might not operate in industrial applications due to the fact that it needs clean hands to operate properly.

There is also voice biometrics. Similar face recognition, voice biometrics creates a way to verify an individuals identity without the subject’s knowledge. It is much simpler to fool (by recording peoples voices), it’s not possible to take advantage of an analyst by imitating another person’s voice.

To sum up, biometrics has become available to every person at all ranges of prices.

Should I Get A Cat Or A Dog?

Advice from a cat person who’s gone to the dogs

I was a committed cat person, but due to some interesting circumstances, I now have two dogs. I would never have considered getting a dog before for the following reasons: Dogs smell bad. Dogs have to be walked every day to do their business and exercise, which must be a pain in the butt. Dogs seem to get very depressed when their ‘person’ isn’t nearby. Dogs tear things up and destroy the house. I’ve found that though I was right about some of these things, I was wrong about others.

#1 Dogs smell bad. I hate to say it, but this is 100% true. Dogs use scent as a form of communication- for example, if doggy A went prowling around on the beach and found a dead fish, he would roll in it, paying special attention to the shoulder region, really grinding away at that dead fish so he could have the full benefit of it’s unique aroma. Then he would bring this lovely scent back to the pack (or in this case, back to the apartment) to brag to the others. My dogs seem very dejected when I wash their carefully chosen perfume off. My cat, on the other hand, wouldn’t be caught dead smelling like a dead fish.

#2 Dogs have to be walked everyday, to do their business and for exercise (TRUE) which is a pain in the butt (FALSE!). I used to watch my dog-having friends with pity. We’d be at a pub or hanging out at someone’s house when they’d sigh, get up, and say ‘well, I’ve got to go let my dog out or he’ll pee on the floor’ and off they’d go, leaving a fun night behind them. What I didn’t understand was that they wanted to get home to their dog. I’ve only had my dogs for 5 months and I’ll tell you right now- after 8 hours away, I miss those mangy little mutts. Also, sometimes it’s downright handy to have an excuse to get out of a boring social situation.

I thought I would hate having to walk my dog all the time- but I love it! I actually know my neighbors and it gives me more exercise and time outside. Before I had my dogs, I never went for walks. Now I do at least twice a day, and it’s one of the healthiest, most relaxing habits that I have. Sometimes we need a reason to do what’s good for us. I’m glad I have two. My cat, however, never gets me out of the house. In fact, she seems to send me subliminal messages convincing me to stay in.

#3 Dogs seem to be very depressed when their ‘person’ isn’t nearby. True. This was probably my biggest reason for not wanting a dog. Most people love the warm welcome they get from their dog after they’ve been gone all day, but I found it depressing. If the dog was so happy to see them come home, weren’t they depressed all day while the person was gone? This troubled me for the first month that I had a dog. I would be out all day, busy, while she was home all day, sleeping. Then when I came home, she wanted to play. I’ve found the perfect solution, which is…drum roll please.TWO DOGS! Ever since I got my second dog, we all seem to be on the same wave-length when it comes to activity level. For more information on how two dogs are better than one, please click here.

#4 Dogs tear things up and destroy the house. This one seems to be true for the first month. I’ve come home to my fair share of destroyed slippers. A good number of my personal items bare canine teeth marks. But I found that after the first month, we reached a compromise- my dog had a better sense of what I didn’t want her to chew on, and I have a better sense of what not to leave within her reach. I say a month because that’s how long I think it takes for a new pet and pet owner to reach some sort of understanding. But it’s probably not a coincidence that my stuff stopped getting chewed up right around the time that I got my second dog. Once again, two dogs seem to be better than one. I’m pretty sure that my two dogs play and chew on each other all day while I’m gone.

So there you have it- some of the common misconceptions that cat people have about dogs, and whether or not they’re true.

Stained Glass: A History

No one actually knows when stained glass was first invented because it happened before people started recording history. However, some historians think that it was first used as a luxury in the homes of wealthy Romans in the first century AD. Stained glass was finally recognized as an art form in the fourth century as Christians began to worship candidly and to build elaborate churches in which to observe their religion.

On the other hand, some historians show that there are remnants in pre-Christian ruins that suggest that pagans employed stained glass in their rites. Although we will most likely never really learn the origins of stained glass, it is fairly certain that the spread of Christianity is immediately related to the increased of use of stained glass.

The Gothic Era commenced in the 12th Century and stained glass windows became an essential element in the design of cathedrals. It really all started with the pioneering style of the St. Denis, France, where stained glass windows were used to convey light into the church itself and into the minds of its worshipers. Sadly, most of the stained glass in the St. Denis Cathedral was destroyed in the course of the French Revolution, but there are a few pieces left and even some complete windows on exhibit in Europe.

Gothic style stained glass was composed of strong lines, but these increasingly went out of fashion as the Renaissance began. During the Renaissance, artisans showed better detail and more subtle colouring in order to increase the realism. Stained glass windows became more like paintings on glass than architectural features and some of the prominent features such as lead lines disappeared. Because of the problems in showing the great detail required by the Renaissance era, the old style, which was original stained glass more or less died out.

Since stained glass was used by and large by the Catholic Church, much of the work was smashed during the reign of King Henry VIII after his split with the Pope. However, not only old stained glass windows were damaged, but many of the glass making works were sabotaged too. However, religious strife was not the only cause of the decline of stained glass.

The style of the Baroque period was for more detailed murals, which necessitated the use of clear glass. Therefore, many of the remaining stained glass windows were permitted to decay, and furthermore not many new stained glass windows were produced. In the late 17th century, the public mood returned to the Gothic style of architecture, which produced a renewed interest in stained glass windows.

Artisans still tried to paint directly onto the glass at first, but later tried to imitate the old leaden frames of medieval times. However, since the earlier methods had not been used for such a long time, they had grown to be forgotten and the artisans of the period were unable to reconstruct the exact designs used in Gothic stained glass.

During the 19th century, La Farge and Tiffany created new variations of stained glass. La Farge was interested in window designs, while Tiffany went into new areas like the Tiffany lamp shade.

Nowadays, stained glass artists are not restricted by religious doctrines, although much of the work they do involves refurbishment. Modern stained glass is also used as the centre pane in front doors, especially uPVC doors, by rich and poor alike in the West.

A Psychic Medium - How Can They Communicate with the Other Dimension?

If we are to give points to every ability a person in the psychic world possesses, for sure, psychic mediums will always rank as the highest pointers. Why? Because it is like an overlapping geometric drawing; everything that a psychic can do, a psychic medium can also do , but then, not everything a psychic medium can do, a mere psychic can also do. The big thing that sets apart a psychic medium from a mere psychic, is their their ability to communicate with the other side.

A psychic medium does not only communicate with those in the after life, they can also communicate with other spiritual entities. Let us enumerate what a psychic medium is capable of as far as “communicating with the unseen” is concerned. A psychic medium can see, feel, hear, and even talk, with spirit guides, those who have passed on, and guardian angels. But then, you might wonder, how do psychic mediums communicate with these spiritual beings?

Well, like everything in the psychic realm, there really isn’t any logical or scientific explanation behind its mystical ways. But let us try to understand how a psychic medium communicates with the other side.

For your much better understanding of the topic at hand some facts must first be presented. First, that their is another dimension that co-exist with our world and that it is beyond the boundaries of space and time. Next, This world is parallel to our world but only a psychic medium can see and communicate to this world.

Communication with the other side by a psychic medium can either be voluntary or involuntary. There are psychic mediums who get unexpected visits from spiritual entities, and there are those who use their gifts to establish connection with the other side.

There are certain norms and practices that are being followed for you to be able to establish connection with the other side. A psychic must first channel their energy in order for them to summon the spiritual entities. On the process that the psychic medium is trying to make connection with the other side a psychic usually go through a state commonly referred to as a trance. Once the psychic medium has established connection with the desired spiritual being then it is when communication will begin. Establishing a connection is not as easy as described here. It takes a lot of energy, time, and practice for a psychic to acheive this state.

Mediumship can come in different forms. One is physical mediumship, a method in where there is physical evidence of the communication with the spirit — this can come in the form of a writing, or even the spirit entering a person’s body to relay the message. The other form of mediumship is referred to as mental mediumship. Mental mediumship, as the name suggest, implies that the psychic medium uses telepathy to communicate with those on the other side of the veil. This form of mediumship leaves no physical evidence that a communication took place.

For a little analogy, a psychic medium’s ability to see what is in the other side is like a webcam, being able to see what another person is doing despite the distance across the globe, and despite of the time difference. So while webcam is powers through technology, a psychic medium relies channeling of energies or forces, to make the connection possible.

What Are Those Roses Trying To Tell You?

More roses are sold in the few days before St. Valentine’s Day than in any other comparable period in the year. Until not so long ago, people were aware of the significance of the colours of roses (I am pretty sure that it did not apply to other flowers too).

For instance, it would have been a serious faux pas to give a young teenage girl a red rose, but not a pink or a yellow one. All the colours had a meaning. However, it is a bit like reading Tarot cards, not everyone agrees on those significances.

Anyway, out of interest and to keep the tradition alive, I will give you the commonly accepted meanings of the colours of roses below.

‘My love is like a red, red rose’, so goes the poem and when most people think of a rose, the first colour that probably comes to mind is red and, in fact, the word ?rose? comes from the Latin word ?rosa?, which means red.

It is also true that red roses are the most widespread and the most bought colour, but there are so many other colours that there is an entire lexicon of meanings that can be expressed with them.

Here are some colours and their meaning:

Red - Love, romance, attraction, obsession, yearning and respect

Burgundy - Unwitting loveliness

Red but withered - Our love is over

White - Wholesomeness, youth, pure love and virginal innocence

Pink - Happiness, appreciation, thankfulness and charm

Dark Pink - Thankfulness or thank you

Yellow - Joy, gladness, companionship, delight or platonic love

Yellow with Red Tip - Falling in Love

Orange - Fascination, yearning, or enthusiasm

Red and White - (a bouquet of roses of two colours) - Ardent purity or unity

Peach - Sincerity, gratitude, indebtedness, modesty, admiration, or sympathy

Lavender - Love at first sight or enchantment

Black - Death or our love is over

Blue - Unfeasible, unattainable or mystery

Red Rosebud - Symbol of purity and loveliness

White Rosebud - Girlhood or youth

Thornless Rose - “Love at First Sight”

Single Rose - Straightforwardness

Two Roses - An engagement or impending marriage

Rose Leaves - Sign of hope

Roses - Sent every month - loveliness ever renewed

Unfortunately, there no true black or blue roses in nature, as the pigment structures in the rose do not allow these colours to be bred, although it has not stopped gardeners trying for hundreds of years. However, there are some very dark purple roses, which are used in stead of black roses. There are also some very pale lavender roses that seem to be blue, but have a shade of pink in them. Traditionally, blue roses are usually white roses dyed.

No matter what you want to express with your flowers, a bouquet of roses can articulate your emotions. So next time you give a bunch of roses, why not try to convey what you want to say by choosing the colours carefully. The recipient probably will not comprehend these day, but you could send them a copy of this article or have fun explaining the meaning to them over a bottle of wine.

Choosing Scent For Someone

A person’s scent is a unique way of expressing oneself. Some people choose the perfume they wear depending on their frame of mind, some wear one perfume during the day and another in the evening, while many people choose to wear the same scent all the time. Others have a favourite, very expensive scent that they wear only on special occasions.

Whatever someone does, the choice is a personal one. Some people use a perfume like a personal trademark, so that whenever you smell that particular bouquet, you automatically think of that one person. My mother used a scent called ‘Wild Gorse’ made by the monks on Caldy Island in west Wales for this purpose. Very, very few other people had that scent, as you had to go to the island to obtain it.

It is almost hopeless to choose perfume for someone you do not know, unless you go for a well-known, expensive name like Chanel No. 5. There are few women who would turn down a bottle of that, even if it was not their favourite fragrance. The more you know the person the easier it should get, in theory at least.

So, how do you know which scents are going to be a welcome gift? That is the $65k question. There are several ways that reduce the odds of you making a slip-up. You could take a sneak look on their dressing table to see what that person wears already.

If you plan far enough in advance, you could bring it up in conversation with an off-hand compliment like: ‘Oh, what a lovely scent/after shave! I like that. What is it called?’. But you have to do it weeks before you need the information.

Or you could choose a fragrance that brings a special memory to mind, like the perfume that was worn on their wedding day, birthday, or graduation day. Perfumes like these bring back pleasant memories and make them feel good by association. If you are not a bosom buddy of the one you want to buy for, you could seek their friends’ guidance.

If you want to give a gift of perfume to someone that you want to remember you by, why not invite them out for a meal or a show and a meal and present the perfume in the restaurant? Most perfumes lose their potency after four or five hours, which is why many women top up every now and again with a spray from their handbags. Very few men do this.

So, if you give the perfume later on in the evening, there is less chance of it clashing with what they are already wearing, meaning that someone is more likely to dab a bit on there and then, thereby associating the bouquet in their memory with the night you took them out. Just make certain it was a good night out.

If all of the above fails, then most department stores offer perfume gift boxes which include the scent , a powder and body wash. These perfume gift boxes are a decent alternative, even if the person only wears it to go to bed or around the house.

Glass Paperweights

My friend has a store that sells glass artwork. My personal favourite glass artwork is paperweights and I have a lot of fun attending art auctions and buying art glass with her. We pay close attention to what our friends and her clients like and dislike.

I usually give people art glass paperweights that I find at art auctions for milestone birthdays and anniversaries. My mother turned seventy last August and I found a magnificent glass paperweight for her.

The art glass paperweight that I found for my mother was made by Baccarat and I was extremely lucky that this was one of the last items auctioned. A lot of people had already left the auction when this item went on the block. My mother really liked the rose motif because the rose is her favourite flower.

I have a Dutch friend from Den Bosch who loves effigies of frogs. She has managed to decorate her abode very stylishly with her favourite frogs. I have been on the lookout for an art glass paperweight for her for years. I finally found one at an art auction last year. The glass paperweight featured a frog sitting on a lily pad surrounded by blue water. It was really pretty and my friend began using it on her desk immediately.

I also have an aunt who collects art glass paperweights. She has asked me very often to find glass paperweights for her when I am attending art auctions. Of all of the pieces I have bought for her over the years, one sticks out in my memory more than any other.

The prettiest art glass paperweight I have ever won at an art auction has to be one that featured a blue and gold Macaw. Rick Ayotte was the artist that made it and it was even featured in a book of his work. He has created many lovely art glass paperweights.

There is no difficulty at all selling art glass paperweights made by Rick Ayotte. His work seems to draw a great deal of interest. My friend tries to win any auction she finds for art glass paperweights made by him. She won one not so long ago that looked like pink roses. They looked so delicate and sweet. I know that this art glass paperweight will sell without delay.

There have been some inquiries at the shop for art glass paperweights by Richard Marquis, although we have not found any in any of the art auctions we have attended recently.

I will keep looking out for art glass paperweights at the auctions I attend, but I will not be going way out of my way to track them down. I now buy every art glass paperweight I can find that was made by Rick Satava. My favorite has to be the coral orange jellyfish that I found at an art auction an hour from my home. It was really beautiful.

Outlines For Plumber Apprenticeships

To begin with newspapers appear to love discussing what can be earned in Plumbing. Salaries of 30-70k p.a. are often discussed, along with the lack of plumbers within the UK. Is this really a fib - or is this in fact accurate? For an experienced Plumber, this amount of salary is both realistic and feasible. In fact, earnings in excess of 70 - 100k p.a. are achievable - but that is solely for those who work within the self-employed market-place, rather than those who work within established employment routes.

However, working for regular employers often results in the typical hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Approximately wages of 15k and 30k p.a. are reasonable within the UK, along with standard benefits such as holiday pay and sickness allowance. That said it is by working longer than typically 9am to 6pm, Mon to Fri that self employed people achieve higher incomes than those adopting a traditional approach. This is clear when self employed plumbers have to work evenings and weekends, where their domestic clients are working during the day.

Also there is the factor of self-employment and whether it goes with some people more than others. This can include getting to grips with advertising & marketing, getting your own cost-per-hour correct and the need to learn and use good ‘business’ sense. To be fair most self-employed people will have to prepare for additional costs including those relating to legal and accountancy fees as well as those of transport and material usage. While these can mount up, (although they should always be a very small proportion of your earnings,) so can the benefits received. And the downsides are nearly always outweighed by the proceeds!

Often customary work from employers attracts Student Entrants especially if it meets their needs training in working knowledge and experience. The need to increase their certifications and accreditations regularly affect the Self Employed Entrant. Having said that, the majority of self-employed workers do not join the business sector but focus on the ‘domestic’ market. (Well the majority do at least)

With reference to education in Plumbing, there is a likeness needed by each part of the industry in relation to the certification elements. Without a doubt the issue of NVQ’s (SVQ’s in Scotland) raises a constant concern as to the way forward.

From the beginning the Student Entrant instead of the Self Employed Entrant is much more reliant upon the NVQ requirements. The Self Employed Entrant will often call upon a wider range of certifications right from the outset; in order to satisfy their perceived client’s requirements. The self employed person needs to consider the wishes of their household clients and use the relative domestic-centred qualifications to satisfy them. The Student Entrant, once they have covered the key fundamentals, will carry on their study in a way similar to an apprenticeship (within the workplace - where the NVQ element can be assessed.) Due to the cost effectiveness of this study the Student Entrant can make strong savings from the outset. But the Self Employed Entrant will gain certifications faster (motivated by a more commercial viewpoint) and will therefore be achieving considerable financial reward long before the Student Entrant.

Clearly this illustrates the need for a careers discussion that covers certifications and study alongside those of financial returns. It is often the issue of 3 years in low-paid apprenticeship work, alongside going back to college that many adults having to look after their family and with say 20kp.a requirements find difficult. Normally, self-employed students to pay for their courses themselves whereas the younger Student Entrants have the majority of their courses paid for them as part of their apprenticeships. For self-employed people these costs are set by the course structure and the level of certification sought and can end up between 3k-10k+.

The study process is often split with Student Entrants studying at recognised further-education colleges whereas the mature Self Employed Entrants going for a wider range of private run technical schools. Certain plumbing training companies deliver the accepted skill-sets and qualifications providing the basis for education. In the current climate the ability of Self Employed Entrants to maintain their current financial situation and job, whilst at the same time as training in the evening, part-time or on self study classes remains one of the advantages of this system. From this it makes sense to gather as much detail as you can especially with so many training options available. To review your options why not book mark this page (CTRL-D) and you can come back and review the links and adverts we have provided for you.

It is through the use of bonus courses that many plumbing students want to increase their ‘marketability’. Areas such as Gas, Green Energy and Electrical training can offer additional qualifications to Plumbers. Gas training has always been a route for Plumbers to consider, as this forms part of the common domestic and commercial heating system.

Gas Training is considered a dedicated training program with key subjects followed by important NVQ’s. For those who trained as a plumber first and are now looking at extra skills this also offers many options for their on-going development. In review it is often felt that the mature student responds well to the blend of Gas/Plumbing training. It is by centring on these core elements and dropping the NVQ elements that the Mature Student appears to settle.

From this, the self-employed professional appears to suit the variable training schemes. The opportunity to learn a wider range of perceived skill-sets (whilst earning money from them) becomes the attraction. This adds to their overall package rather than having to rely on sub-contraction of key skills to third parties. Of concern is the reduction in customer’s value as they have to wait for jobs to be completed by others that in turn can lead to a reduction of the earning potential of a job. The more professional a Plumber is within their field the more that they have to offer their relative client base.

In retrospect, the Self Employed Entrant has the potential to achieve a much higher and more readily available income stream than Student Entrant, but to do so they need to develop both their business skills and achieve a broader range of certifications. Note: This relative information is primarily for the UK workplace and policies alone.

A Chameleon Sky
The sands of time are running out for the central star of this the Hourglass Nebula. With its nuclear fuel exhausted, this brief, spectacular, closing phase of a sun-like star's life occurs as its outer layers are ejected and its core becomes a cooling, fading white dwarf. In 1995, astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to make a series of images of planetary nebulae, including the one above. Here, delicate rings of colorful glowing gas (nitrogen-red, hydrogen-green, and oxygen-blue) outline the tenuous walls of the 'hourglass.' The unprecedented sharpness of Hubble's images revealed surprising details of the nebula ejection process and may resolve the outstanding mystery of the variety of complex shapes and symmetries of planetary nebulae.
