No Television? My life would not move forward! So habituated am I to this luxury of being able to surf numerous channels every day! I cannot even imagine living in a remote area where it is too expensive to set up a cable or satellite connection, no paved roads for speeding automobiles, no high-tech highway or devices, etc. And even in this urban setting, if I should suddenly find that all the TV networks had disappeared barring one, I really would not know what to do!

Yet, the very thing that I had only imagined, was put into action just a few days ago. I was unable to continue my “writing” work in peace, what with all the varied noises surrounding me–deafening music, equally noisy dogs, drunken fights, and so on! Deciding to experiment, and wishing to have some peace and quiet for my writing work, I went ahead and bought a little trailer to journey into the unknown! The idea was to go as deep into the woods as possible to escape from noisy civilization and noisy conversations!

My friends who accompanied me, had come for the sole purpose of setting up the TV with its satellite dish system. There was a remote too. I was not familiar with either of them. Despite having numerous boxes and bundles to put into their right places, I left it aside to give more attention to the TV. It was only after my friends had left, that I took up to settling the place a little. I had come here to spend a long period. Tired out after my labors, I switched on the TV with the help of the remote. The only channel that I could get hold of was showing a scene full of violence, full of guns and explosions. But I was stuck with it, since I had no idea of how to go about switching channels! And my friends were too far away to help and would return only after a few days!

This of course made me revert to that old clich, you don’t know what you got till it’s gone, and to feeling sorry for myself-that I had one choice, one TV network, though it was the sort of company I needed to keep from going completely bonkers. This also got me to thinking about those hypothetical exercises you fool around with in an interpersonal dynamics class, wherein you decide, of the ten people on the list, whom you will choose to go with you in the boat that fits only seven and whom you will abandon. Which TV network would I choose if I were allowed only one? That’s a tough one. Turner Movie Classics is a frontrunner, especially since is commercial-free. But then whichever station carries the most reality TV shows might be better, cause then you could force yourself to catch the news, as well. If affordable to you, you might choose to go with the Indy Channel, or another fascinating, educational and entertaining network that would cover more than basic TV-viewing needs.

Cost can be a prohibitive factor in many interests but not astronomy for kids when in the beginning it doesn’t have to cost you a cent - so if you are interested, read on. Now that the thought of a free hobby has peaked your interest further, just what do you need to start it? Fortunately not much but it is very good to have a star chart at hand which can be found in books that show you Star Charts or something referring to the Zodiac. Some charts are simple and easy to follow but you can easily get much more complex versions that illustrate far more. You can find them at any Planetarium or Observatory and the cheaper the better as you only need one to show you the brightest stars because the rest you can fill in yourself.

When it comes time to purchase a telescope then the best advice is to avoid cheap scopes (the sort children are given) that quite frankly will spoil your vision of looking at the stars. Many would be astronomers forget that most of the stars they look at will fade from view as the earth rotates - this is quite normal and no concern is needed. There is no need to be disappointed by this, the star will back the following night so instead of putting the scope away, focus it on another. I recommend buying a Meade telescope.

My second suggestion which can make astronomy for kids a distinct possibility night after night is to beg, borrow or buy the usual 10×50 set of binoculars. This can enable you to view the total constellation, the star bunches, the moon along with several other planets. Luck is also on your side as almost every school, but certainly each town has a library and this is your best resource for free literature on the stars, astronomy for kids, the Universe and the Solar System.

Look for books that contain star charts, preferably pull-out versions and don’t worry if the book is quite old because the stars won’t have changed. Before you go into too much depth, locate the Southern Cross or Scorpio in the book and then see if you can find it in the night sky. The location of the Southern Cross is the south and as night moves on, you can see the Orion traversing over your head from East to the West. Just keep in mind that sometimes it won’t be visible when you look for it as it will rise later or in the early morning.

Most people seem to think there is a lot to learn before you can enjoy it and while this is true, it is not necessary to enjoy it but in all probability you will want to know more as you start to recognise stars. You can acquire plenty of such information in books meant for children which would provide you with some basic knowledge. To summarize, when star gazing you need at least a star chart and at least one eye and you are on the verge of discovering the Universe. And then you get yourself a pair of binoculars and once you have grasped the basics, invest in a good telescope. Buying a Meade telescope is well worth the money spent.

Where Do Tarot Cards Come From

Tarot cards were invented in the fifteenth century in northern Italy. It was created for a new type of card game that is very similar to bridge. The deck was similar to the playing cards of the time with four suits and number cards from one to ten. There were also court cards that included a king, knight and page. The queen was not included in playing cards at that time. With the tarot, came the addition of the queen. There were also twenty-two other cards added to the deck that had pictures that had special meaning and symbols.

The tarot deck was used for a game called Triumphs and it was a big hit among the elites of the time period. During this time, cards were hand painted so the cost of the cards was quite high and only the very rich could afford to own them. As the cards were taken to different geographic areas they began to take on new pictures and symbols for the tarot cards.

It is theorized that the game was invented for the Duke of Milan. There is a book that was created to accompany the deck, but interestingly, it does not give the rules of the game. The only information that is contained in the book is the meanings behind the symbols and their ranking in the game. It also does not give any prophetic or divination meaning to the cards.

It is interesting to note that the queen card was added to the deck at the same time. In earlier playing card decks there was not a queen, but there was a king, page and knight. The four suits of cards were the same that we see in today’s playing cards.

The creation of the tarot deck is attributed to the Duke of Milan according to some of the theories. He commissioned a servant to come up with a new game for his entertainment. There is also an accompanying book that was written about the new cards and the game of Triumphs.

Interestingly, the book that accompanied the deck does not contain any of the rules for the game. Its pages are filled with the meaning and representation of the pictures on the cards and the ranking of each card in the deck. This book is currently in Paris in the Bibliotheque Nationale.

The tarot has also evolved to include many different spreads of the cards. Each spread of the cards is more suited toward a specific type of reading. For example, if you are interested in knowing the state of your relationship, there is a spread that will work best for this type of question.

However these lovely cards were created, we are treated to the art and culture of the past whenever a tarot deck is used. They are a beautiful symbol of a time gone by. The artistry that is used in a deck of tarot cards cannot be compared with any other game that has ever been invented. Perhaps the detail and the attention to the beauty of the cards is what have led to the assertion that the cards have more meaning than can be found in a game.

If you manage to bid before the bidding period ends on eBay, you will get things at bargain prices, ranging from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars. Whatever the price may be, they are affordable. There are jewelry pieces with different inscriptions or information, varied sizes and shapes. Sometimes, classic sexual poses of the 1970s are depicted on these pieces of zodiac jewelry. If you do not like the classics, stick to your own icons and elements. Coming to the jewelry itself, they are even available as 3-D with inlaid turquoise. There are tiny plaques with the names of the signs on them. Some plaques are least bothered about the signs; they give more attention to the stuff they are made of such as leather or gold or copper or silver.
